I have come up with the beginnings of a world and a story for my language. I only know a few specifics so far, but I will tell them all.

So far, the main land masses are a large mainland and a large island to the west. Initially, the people of the island are a scholarly race, and disdain war as being beneath people of their intellectual capacity. These people, as of yet, have no name. I'm thinking of calling them the Corsvỉm: the Knowers. When their island is attacked by mainlanders (no name), they are forced to take up arms to defend their home. After the attack is beat back to the coast, factions form that want to put down arms and take back up scrolls and pens, and those who want to beat plowshares into swords and conquor the mainland. The scholars win the struggle, somehow..., but find that war has become a part of their lives of which they are unable to rid themselves.
They use their knowledge of physics, geometry, etc to build spectacular weapons for sieges, and their knowledge of geology, mining, etc to acquire the purest ore and create the most resilient and strong weapons and armor. Under the leadership of Telþruvỉm--the conquorer--they invade the mainland and sweep aside the scattered tribes and feuding city-states that exist after the downfall of the previous invaders. They fight their way inland, to a tall mountain range that separates the eastern and western parts of the continent. Using their weapons on the mountains, they blast a pass through, intending to unite the entire world under their banner.
Instead, they find a massive civilization, one also based on conquest and military might. Since the empire of Telþruvỉm is new and unorganized, the new Enemy: Reglor, is able to beat him in several large battles. In spite of the strength of their arms and the ingenuity of their machines, Telþruvỉm finds his armies being pushed back.
After a long, slow campaign, Telþruvỉm holds only one settlement on the mainland. It is at this time that a forgotten temple from one of the conquored peoples is rediscovered by a patrol. Reading the inscriptions in the temple, they take a relic belonging to Mentolorî: the Great God. They find that they are able to manipulate the Earth around them: rocks, soil, even metal. They take the relic back to the their king, but before the new powers can be perfected, the Reglor attack and rout the defenders and kill Telþruvỉm. The proud race of islands become the Telþruvaar--the conquored. The survivors escape into a cave near the temple, and delve a new home underground. For a few years afterward, settlers and survivors of the siege of the island escape to the cave, but the doors are eventually sealed for fear of attack.

After three decades of tyranny under the Reglor, the remaining villages of islanders are suffering endlessly. Stories are still told of the glory days, when Schoarc: the Island, was a place of knowledge and might. People say one day the Earth will open and a mighty army will issue forth, weilding the power of the Earth to defeat the enemy and free the people. Many pass over the legends as wives-tales, but when a young man, Glaa'athun, chances upon a ruined temple, he knows the truth.

I eventually plan to write a story about the young man journying across the continent trying to discover the entrance to the cave. Once he finds it, he will pursuade the king of the underground kingdom to march up and overthrow the tyrants that have reigned for three hundred years too long.

My language is that of the underground kingdom, and that, also of the remaining settlers above ground. The Reglor speak a different language, which I have yet to begin to develope.
So...good idea? I'm afraid I know nothing of the culture, food, fish, or music. Only that they can throw rocks with their minds.

Interesting.
I don't know how to help you yet, but I'm facing similar challenges (or at least I think so), so when you conquer them I want to see how.

I haven't touched my story since I posted this, but I have been doing a lot of thinking and working in my head. I figured I should probably put something on paper, so I wrote this up. It describes the events before the first attack from the mainland. It's just a "first draft" as my teachers would have said. I want to include more about the city and the people. So stay tuned.

The Invaders

Glâathun walked, overwhelmed, up the stairs leading from the pier. He followed the gracefully curving road up the carved passage through the mountains and approached the massive, ornate gates of the city. The guards smartly saluted as he meandered through the double walls and past the tall towers, but he did not notice them.
Only when he reached the broad boulevards and beautifully cultivated gardens of the city did he begin to be aware of his surroundings. Then, he looked at the ancient houses and avenues, the sculpted fountains and statues, and the prosperous, proud people around him. He thought of the thousands of years of glorious history that had built this place and was glad to be a part of it.
As he continued through the squares and courtyards up to the citadel, he looked down from the central hill over the numberless, shining palaces of the city. The sun glinted off the walls of the keep, towering over the hill. The sea breeze, passing over the Coastal Mountains blew at this height, and rippled the banners hanging proudly upon the walls. The sentries greeted him as he entered the citadel, but he did not reply, for a sudden resolve entered his mind. He had just received word that his father, King Hyolit, was dead. His hunting party had been slaughtered by invaders at the north end of the island realm. Hurrying into the central courtyard, where were situated the armory and barracks, he ordered the Generals of the Walls and the Keep to martial their forces for an imminent attack. The city would be surrounded within a week.
