According to some book I read several years ago, some archaeologists found a vase at the ancient city of Troya. What made it interesting (or a fake?) was the legend visible on it saying it belonged to King Kronos of Atlantis. The weird thing here is it was written in Greek...

My question would be why any king would dare to say his people came from a (now) non existing land or island or kingdom?

Could it be just another sea people (Meervölker) myth wandering around?

The curious thing is that I also remember Babylonians also wrote about fish men emerging from the sea and teaching the locals about starting or improving a civilization...

Troy as in Ilion as in the Trojan War Troy?

Perhaps this 'Atlantis' was an alternative name for somewhere, or maybe some city that no one's stumbled across yet. Keep in mind that the myth of Atlantis was originally written by Plato, and wasn't one of those myths floating around that had been passed down for thousands of years.

I don't know how to account for the Babylonian one, but it's probably no more believable than humans being made from the bones of Marduk or however the myth goes. (It's been years since I read the Enuma Elish.)
