Hello, everyone!
I have a crazy idea - to sing Amazing Grace in as many natlangs and conlangs as possible.
So, if you know of a natlang version, please post it (only the first verse is enough). But I'd be even happier, if you translated (or somehow transformed) the first verse in your conlangs, making a verse that can be sung with the original tune.
I'd be most grateful if you guys helped me out! Thanks! |

Awesome idea! I don't have access to my Emitare info where I am now, but I'll do a quick Japanese rendition.

I think. The whole lost/found thing doesn't work in languages where for someone to be lost and something to be lost are two different things. (If someone can suggest a better translation for that line I'd much appreciate it.) |

Naturally, sound files in your conlang and/or writing in your conscript would be welcome. You may not have a romanisation for your conlang; if so you needn't include one. OTOH maybe you do have a romanisation but have not yet developed a "native" orthography (a con-script) for your conlang; in which case just the romanization will do. Or maybe you don't have either, but can write it out in Z-SAMPA or Conlang X-SAMPA or X-SAMPA or IPA. If so we'd like to see that, and hear it pronounced, whether sung or spoken.
Can I assume that anyone who wants to do it in more than one conlang should only do the first verse, or only the first and last?

That's... archaic. Like, notably more than just 'thee' and whatnot in English. (I don't know half those words!) It kind of changes a bit more of the meaning than I might choose to.
I redid the translation a bit more freely though (and it's completely contemporary), so here. Maybe this is better:
おのれを救った
onore wo sukutta
恵みすごい
megumi sugoi
昔は、盲目
mukashi wa, moumoku
今、よく見る
ima, yoku miru

Heyy, 4shared works! Here's the Japanese one.
For some reason my /m/s sound like I have sinus issues. Guess my mic is weird.
Emitare:
ukharama sanalune
savale ovare
virilema yoluzjinü
nere yoluzje ö
me\STAT (the pronoun here is self-deprecating) save-PAST-ATT
grace-NOM\STAT amazing
front-DEM-LOC see-POT-NEG
now see-POT me(\STAT)
It's effectively an exact translation of the Japanese, their levels of information density seem to be similar (at least in this case).
And the sound file. (I didn't get to pronounce any lateral fricatives.... T_T) |

| Kari looks very influenced by Japanese. Specially that wa = I and o = OBJ. (is it only by coincidence that the old Japanese particle for POT is 'e'?) |

Yes.
Other words for "I" are (from most formal/oldest to least and in masculine-feminine order) kerenharan-kerenya (you would never see these now unless reading something old), hae-han, hei, wanu, wa, eyo-temin/tiu, ausa. /ausa/ is modern slang and makes one sound very full of oneself. I picked /wa/ because it fit the rhythm best without being gender-specific.
