I am currently working on dialects in my conworld and I wanted to know how other people are doing this, because I'm kind of stuck... Confused

Yes!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy I love making dialects of my conlangs! To be sure, some of them aren't particularly different from the base language, but others have become so deviant they've started their own branch on the tree. What's got you stuck?

Take the current form of your conlang, and run it through some sound changes or grammatical changes and stuff. If you have an 'older' form, run that through the changes.
Dialects are effectively places where the language went through most of the changes that the standard did, but not all, or added a couple.

I have created one dialect (and I hope to make more), spoken by the Nomads. However I am still working on it, and there are only sound changes for now.

EDIT: The Sarýsian Tribe Dialect has a grammatical change here and there, mostly in word order.

Standard Haásvia: Hvá ögaanü pož ig mág sí?

Nomadic Dialect: Hajau ogänýu poý eeg maug see?

Sarýsian Tribe Dialect: Chejýe oogýeneyé pooja áýg mýeg sáý?

Tas was originally a dialect of Old Jinnic, now a language. Differences:
Jinnic:
Celís màtís janarêt eldeiš samís kajĕs xoesí. Daràt budena àbakena xasi bratrpoti.

Tas:
Celyes manyes janeńť eldes su samyes kajenis ned xoum ned. Dańť budena embakena xeńť bratrpotis in.

I see far fewer similarities in yours. What sound changes did you use?

I'm still working them out, I'll post the sound changes tomorrow. Embarassed

I like it. (^_^) At least you have your sounds figured out - if you saw my thread "guess how to pronounce this" you may've seen how absolutely ridiculous my romanization was... and I have to come up with a reason for it. Rolling Eyes I tend to make dialects and progression of a language through lots of epenthesis and metathesis, and generally ignore grammatical differences because I end up confusing myself. I'd like to see more as you develop your dialects - they seem very interesting! Very Happy

I'll post more as I go along, I'd also like to see some other dialects of other's conlangs as well.

Also, a question. Do your dialects follow the same conscript/form of writing as the standard language?

I have decided there are going to be 5 thousand or 6 thousand or so. At least I wrote that down somewhere where anyone else could see it. Embarassed
Naturally I don't expect to create all of them. Shocked Rolling Eyes
You'd need to know they wouldn't be as divergent as different natlangs are in real life; they truly would be dialects rather than different languages.

WOOOOOW, that's a lot, Eldin. Shocked Good luck, even if you don't make them all! If you ever come up with names for most of them though I'd love to see 'em! Very Happy

Depending on how close the dialect is to the base language, it generally does use the same writing system, perhaps with slight variations due to slight phonological differences. However, some dialects form due to proximity to other languages, through the mingling of races in a given area, and sometimes there even the writing changes. For example, hopefully soon I'll be able to post a language in the same family as ra cel and Tadvaradcel (called la Cel), and a variant of it has developed along its own path grammatically and phonologically enough to be nearly unintelligible to la Cel speakers - much like really strong Cockney sounds to Americans, I suppose.

Wow. I hope you reach your goal, Eldin. Shocked

I'm hoping to make possibly one or two more dialects for Haasvia, but will probably end up having three as more would confuse me. Embarassed

I don't even plan to try. I will group them into "families", though; and maybe (probably?) I'll give those names (and other details).
The Adpihi dialects and their families in my conworld are meant to sort-of-mirror the RL natlangs and their families on Earth.
There's no point in saying I have "dialects" unless I have at least two, though, so I'll probably do that many.
Reptigan descends from one particular dialect of Adpihi. Since some of the "people" who speak it will be aliens, and some will be computers or robots, they'll probably have "dialects", or at least accents, different from the "human dialect". (Actually the "computer dialect" may be the Standard Received Average dialect; the "human dialect" may be considered to have irregularities.)

So far I've planned two alien species in the Reptigan Union (in addition to humans and Artificial Intelligences). One is "space centipedes", on which I've done the most work (which hasn't been very much so far); the other is a reptilianoid species about whom so far all I've decided is "they're a reptilianoid species".
