I absolutely love this site because it's just SO awesome, and I consider languages to be a kind of art, but I was wondering if anyone also has interest in other art and if so; do you know of or have an account on http://www.deviantart.com ? I'm also a huge fan of that website, though I haven't posted much on it yet (I tend to favorite more than I submit, haha) and I was wondering if anyone else frequented deviantart and if I could check out any art you've posted. (^_^)

I've been there several times for many reasons, but I don't have an account. I can't draw for crap ^_^

It's a good site though.

I have an account, nothing posted though. I originally created it for commenting etc. but have since forgotten it. In terms of non-language arts, I am very interested by visual art, especially graffiti. I can't draw at all, but I am a decent musician. That's art, right?

You could get an account just to keep track of your favorite art if you wanted, Tolkien_Freak - I don't think I draw particularly well either (thus the very few postings I have, haha) but I have a LOT of art favorited on my account. Plus it's free! XD

And, music is totally art! XD One of the more difficult and beautiful ones, I personally think. I can still pound out the Fur Elise on the piano but most of my musical talent's gone, haha. What do you do, musically?

Funny, that's what I tend to think about painting and lithography etc. I guess whatever you're least skilled in alwaays seems most impressive.

I play clarinet and guitar. I also compose, although not very well.

Oo, reed instruments have always impressed me... mostly because I hear the reeds are troublesome, so I figure they must be rather difficult to play. Smile Do you compose with those two instruments or have you made up some with which you create?

I immediately went in and favorited about 5 of your submissions. (^_^) And, if you were to check out my account in turn (but don't feel obligated to do so, as I put down where to look: jmaiocchi.deviantart.com) you would find that it lists me as male... which I'm not. My dad made the account for me, and I just left it the way it was to confuse people. Haha. XD Your dog is ADORABLE, StrangeMagic.

The enemy poked my eyes out? Sounds like you have some issues while trying to draw the character's eyes he he he. I guess I'm wrong but the drawings look interesting.

BTW, is Beautiful Mana some kind of tribute to the 80's weird look? It made me think about rock stars and fans... he he he....

Hehe, Mana is a tribute to a popular Japanese movement called Visual Kei. ^_^ And that was inspired by glam rock of the 80s so, yes, I would say it is a tribute to the 80s weird look, although indirectly. ^_^

Haha, thanks. I put so much effort into the little details on the rest of the picture (though, I guess it wasn't that much effort) I didn't feel like doing the eyes on that one. (^_^)

StrangeMagic, I liked your calligraphy pictures a lot! Smile I took a closer look today... I wish I could do pretty calligraphy too!

Aww, thank you. ^_^ I'm sure if you practice and just experiment - you'd come up with some really nice results. =D

I shall do so. Smile I have to dig up my pens... they're somewhere in the organized chaos that is my room. Haha.

Reeds are really no more difficult than flutes or brass, once you get the hang of it. The biggest problem it that the tuning goes wierd when the temperature changes drastically (which, where I live, is every few days.) Also, it can get a bit squeaky when it's dry out (which, where I live, is all the time.)
achemel wrote:

I often use those to help work out melodies, as well as piano even though I am not a pianist. Very few of my pieces are actually for those instruments, though. I write a lot for marimba and oboe because I have friends who play those. I haven't made any truly unique instruments, but I have a homemade dulcimer which is tuned and fretted quite non-traditionally. I have not yet written anything with it, though.

That is some excellent line art up there!

Haha, it sounds like your current place of residence is not particularly friendly to reed-instrument players... I have some troubles with my violin (mostly because I hardly play it anymore so the tuning is completely wack when I finally take the thing out of its case) but reeds seem to be a bit more temperamental.

And thank you for the comment on my lineart. (^_^) I would love for someone to color it all for me, haha.
