I know this is rather late but 'Phags-pa was designed as an extended variant of the Tibetan writing system by the person whose name is also the name of the it. Just sayin'.

Retafon. Reta is an archaic form of Rete, meaning 'east', and Fon means 'from' or 'of', hence literally 'from the east'.
