This was posted by eldin some days ago in CBB and I wanted to copy and paste it here on the board. I might say that love hurts but that's what people say, I don't know for sure. I just think it just doesn't make any sense most of the time, he he he he.

English
Love hurts; love scars; love wounds and mars any heart not tough, not strong enough to take a lot of pain. Love is like the clouds, tears are like the rain. Love is like a stove that burns you when it's hot. Love is just a lie told to make you blue.

Neerlander? Hollander?

(Brazilian?) Portuguese
http://vagalume.uol.com.br/nazareth/love-hurts-%28traducao%29.html

Love is like a stove that burns you when is hot. Love is just a lie that tells you for-that from you extract tears.)

Out of boredom, Japanese.

愛は痛い、愛は付く、愛はかたくない心をきずつけて、十分で強くない心を付く。愛は雲のようであり、涙は雨のようだ。愛は、熱い時に君をやく窯のようだ。愛は、君を悲哀にするために言われたうそだけだ。

Ai wa itai; ai wa tsuku; ai wa katakunai kokoro o kizutsukete, juubun de tsuyokunai kokoro o tsuku. Ai wa kumo no you de ari, namida wa ame no you da. Ai wa, atsui toki ni kimi o yaku kama no you da. Ai wa, kimi o hiai ni suru tame ni iwareta uso dake da.

(Left out 'to take a lot of pain' because IDK how this works in Japanese.)

Yeah, it is. On conlanger.com/cbb somebody, I think it was dokharena? [EDIT]: No, it was Drago. [/EDIT], was posting several TCs a day, and several of them were about "love". I thought it was kind of weird to assume this would be a major topic of conversation between an L1 and an L2 speaker of some language; also, I noticed all the statements they asked to translate were positive. So I decided to balance it out with one negative statement. That's why it's so long; it takes every clause about love from the Roy Orbison / Everly Brothers song "Love Hurts". (Notice some people think that's a Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris song; some think it's a Nazareth song (their version was the only one to make it into the top 10); some think it belongs to one of the other bands, groups, or soloists.)

Here on Vreleksa maybe it's too long. Maybe just the first sentence would be enough; leave out the cloud/rain thing, the stove/burn/hot thing, and even the lie/blue thing. Or maybe leave out the first sentence and include the other three?

Yeah, the TL is long, but I was referring to the Gwákén translation.

Oh.
Yes, that translation is ambitious! I am proud of mr.toast2 for it.
I'm also proud of you, for the Japanese particularly, and also for your conlangs.
And of kyonides for his conlangs.
@Strange_Magic: Which conlang is your translation in?

@All conlanger posters; is an Interlinear Morphemic Gloss of your posts possible? Could you post an IMG of yours, or at least of part of yours?

@Any speaker of Dutch and/or French and/or German and/or Spanish: Can you check those translations? And should I be asking the same about Portuguese?

@Any speaker of Norwegian: The Nazareth (1975) version of this song was Number 1 on the Norwegian charts for 57 consecutive weeks (over a year!). So there's bound to be a Norwegian translation. Anyone care to try?

@kyonides, strange_magic, tolkien_freak; Do your conlangs have con-scripts yet?

Thanks everyone!
I'm proud of this entire BBoard! Especially everyone who posted in this thread!

Yes, of course. You can find it here on the board. I must admit that to write it down on a piece of paper wouldn't be that easy...

Well, the Spanish translation belongs to me because the original version posted on CBB, ehm, was defective...

Edit / Shilzen:

Yes, I did on CBB, too.

Good! You replaced Babelfish's version; Thanks.
I've let Babelfish translate some of those translations back into English and they came out really weird, so I knew Babelfish's Spanish probably wasn't good.
Did you also replace it on the CBB?

I'm not super-fluent in french, but here's my translation:

L'amour fait mal, l'amour marque, l'amour blesse et gâche des cœurs qui ne sont pas assez résistant ou fort pour supporter beaucoup de douleur. L'amour est comme les nuages, et les larmes sont comme la pluie. L'amour est comme une cuisinière qui vous brûle quand il a chaud. L'amour est juste un mensonge qui est dit pour vous donner le cafard.

love hurt, scar-pl love give, any heart not tough and not strong great-pain for love wound and dismember. love cloud-like be, tear-pl rain-like be. love a stove-like, whom you burn-3 when hot be-3. love just a lie you pain-dech give for be.

The gloss for the last line might be a bit confusing, it basically means "love is just a lie for giving you pain."

All of my translations have been Eleypherion, and this is another one. ^_^

And I will post a gloss of it soon, I was too lazy at that time. Haha.

And yes, you will have seen the Eleypherion script. =P And as the holidays are coming up, I will aim to get it written in the script and posted up. =P

Japanese grammar is so fun. Look up the form names on Wikipedia if you want. (Technically, all the verbs that aren't before nouns are in the shuushikei and all the verbs before (and modifying like adjectives) nouns are in the rentaikei, but the shuushikei is the basic uninflected form and the rentaikei is identical to the shuushikei in modern Japanese.)

EDIT: Oh, and I've been meaning to get around to conscripting for these langs, but haven't yet.

Wooow, Nara period... Makes me wonder how old-fashioned the Japanese I'll take year after next will be. (^_^)

This is intriguing; I'll probably post translations soon. Very Happy
