My "conscript" began from studying Tolkein's Elvish scripts. Did yours stem from those roots as well?
Yep. I enjoyed the flow and wanted to make something of my own.

Heylo!

I'm excited about being a member of these forums! I'm sure i'll check them MUCH MORE than the forums for Phantom Dust, which is an amazing game, even if it was for the original xbox.

Anyway... all of that aside..

My name is Jordey. I turned 18 last December and I live in Arkansas. I'm an avid fan of anything language and plan on learning about 7 more languages in the future. If you'd like to know them, feel free to ask, but I'm just saying a nice "heylo" right now Very Happy . I'm a HUGE fan of scripts that are neat and not extremely complex, since I can't think on that level due to a condition I have called Disorganized Schizophrenia... which also leads me to say/do spontaneous things at any time. I'm one of those lucky 1/10,000 kids or whatever that large statistic is Wink . It's ok, though. I don't ask for pity and I just wanted to throw that out there just in case someone gets confused.

I've taken 4 years of Spanish, and I'm starting college this coming August. I'm EXTREMELY excited and proud to say that I'll be pursuing a greater knowledge of the language by majoring in it and traveling to Spain within the next 2 years through a program at my university. I'm an absolute FREAK when it comes to Spanish, so PLEASE don't get me started talking about it, because I'll go all day.

I do music. We'll leave it at that. I've played the Bassoon for about 7 years in middle/high school band, and I've enjoyed every second of it. I also dabble a little bit in the Sacred Art of Piano, and enjoy many of the pieces written by Franz Liszt, amont MANY others. I also listen to various rock bands from Marilyn Manson to No Doubt. Like I said - I do music.

I've been reading these forums for about 2 weeks (examining personalities, typing styles, and overall comradery) and have been throughly impressed by many of the characters on here... and I say "characters" mostly referring to the one that speaks of "boingies". I've laughed a lot at the "bubbly" feelings coming from the typing. I had a good feeling when I got here and noticed the organization and work that went in to bringing people together toward a common interest.

SO! I had been wondering how to make an account when FINALLY I got past my little schizo block and did some exploring and found (on the front page, no less, where it says it - clear as day) how to make an account. Thank you, StrangeMagic.

Thank you for listening to my extremely over-worked introduction, and I promise I'm usually not this long-fingered (hahaha.. get it? instead of long-winded.. oh gosh.. :p).

I'm excited to share my disorganized thoughts with all of you and look forward to progressing in my endless crusade to spread the beauty of language, real or fictional.

Feel free to message me on AIM at any time. I'm usually always set to away, even if I'm actually there, so just message me and I'll message back if i'm there, haha.

Go being up at 5:30 in the morning! WOO!!

Welcome Jordey! Encantada!

It's nice to see another member, and one who obviously takes languages seriously. My name's Dolmar (sorry can't reveal real name for reasons beyond my permission), Dolmar is sorta more than a nickname, maybe a pseudonym.

So you say you are obsessed with ¿español? I have a conlang that people say sounds abit like it, called Espiritolan. Just google it at your will.

And just a quick question, what's the distinction between elementary school, high school, college and university? Coz I'm from Australia and things are abit different here. High school and college are sorta the same thing over here.

Bienvenár Jordey! Encantede

Le serchár sora google si to voloas.

Ey un question, ¿qué sé la dinstinccion entra un escolo elementario, un olto escolo, un collegio ey un universitia. Ya vena da l'Australia ey abado as differenças entra los dos. Los oltos escolos ey os collegios sés as mesmas quosas á icca.

PS: I noticed you registered on my "conlinguists" forumboard. Just reminding you that it is now my "Espiritolan" forum where I post all things Espiritolan. However, I have all the old forums and all the old posts of the original forums in backup if you want to read some of them.

Welcome! Nice to see another personality around here.

I'm not sure about your poll. My interest in conscripting in general was sparked by Tolkiens', but I don't think my current/main one is very influenced by any of his. (it may be though...)

Hi! Evir! Buenos dios!

I do highly reccomend that you check here often, especially if you have your own conlang. Mine has improved VASTLY since joining the forum.

I see that you're studying Español. I like it, too. Unfortunately, the school schedule wouldn't let me back in this year. Mad

About the poll question, both answers apply, although "no" is the closest answer. I have some cyphers based on tengwar, but my main scripts are not.

Welcome to Vreleksa!

Well, in Canada, grades 10 to 12 are highschool, then you graduate. College is post-secondary.

Here in the U.S. Elementary ranges from Pre-kindergarten-6th grade, middle can be from 5-9th, Junior high from 7-9th, and high from 9th-12th. Then there's separate universities, etc. The school types depend on what city you live in... I remember thinking it was the strangest thing when I moved that the elementary schools in my new town only went up to 4th grade, because I came from a smalllllll town that only had an elementary, middle, and high school, and the elementary went up to 6th grade.... There's another town close to the place I used to live that just has an elementary and high school... This IS Arkansas.. haha.

I've seen your language and have been a member of those forums for quite some time... I just haven't posted though. It's more for an "I have a question about this." sort of thing. I think it's really nice, but I'm scared to learn it based on the fact that I might start getting words confused... know what I mean? I have a similar problem with my conscript in that it's written together like cursive writing, and it absolutely SLAYS me when I attempt to write english in cursive because i throw in letters from the conscript. It's largely a part of my disorder, but a common thing for people who don't have it, also.

I may look over it after I take my oral proficiency test. I can read it... and understand most of it.. and I'm sure it spreads over a broad range of European-Romantic languages. Nice flow, indeed. I'm just not sure if my brain can handle the meshing between Esp. and Esp. Wink

Ah.. maybe I should have clarified... I meant just any conscript that one has in general.. and I would consider a "sparked interest" as an influence. Just in my opinion, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I've seen a lot of things on here that I'm not quite sure about including various letters inside of brackets and symbols and things.... There's a lot about linguistic structure that I'm positive I don't know about. (things such as [a{] and stuff like that... that's just an example.)

And 1-6 is elementary, 7-9 is junior high (at least that's the way it is here in alberta).

Welcome, by the way!

Those are probably X-SAMPA, Z-SAMPA, or SAMPA. It's a way of using regular keyboard characters to represent phonetic sounds. Here are some links:

Thanks a lot! I'll start looking at it after a while. I got the motivation to clean my room just now, so I'm not passing up the opportunity while I have the energy.

Alexander Melville Bell's "Visible Speech"

Welcome to the boards. We hope you enjoy your stay. Your bags are being taken to your room.

Have any conlangs you'd like to show us?

Temmodeja evrùtemm. Hoethyvla cumôĵaev. Kajryvæ śeiyvrua liveveett.

Deem utwa fheacla navvivxah evhja.

Yes, in that last sentence what is a question mark in English becomes a period in Lorošae.

Thanks, here in Perth, Western Australia, this is our school system:

Pre primary to grade 7 = Primary School (Elementary - USA)
Grade 8 to 12 = High school OR college, there is no distinction!

Lol btw, the code for Espiritolan is not ESP but EPR.

Probably one of the most helpful books out there for conlanging is Describing Morphosyntax by Thomas Payne. I would highly suggest it and take a look at http://cals.conlang.org/ it shows information on alot conlangs and has links to grammatical, syntax, phonological information.

Hi there. It's nice to see a brand new face here. Btw what does your username mean anyway? I ask this because it has a meaning of "to think" in my not even there conlang Il khefsellia (Al kafsah). Yeah, a strange arabic dialect bogolang. So, you have this randomness syndrom in your brain right? So does that mean that you sometimes happen to cook up some weird philosophies? Very Happy

Weird philosophies? no.. weird nonsensical stories...? yes. Wink

Faquarl is the name of a character in The Bartimaeus Trilogy.. He's a Djinn, and one of Bartimaeus' enemies... kind of.. (it's circumstantial..)
