This is actually a singing challenge.
The tune is the one used for "the alphabet song", at least in USAmerica and Canada, and probably in most English-speaking countries.
The musical arrangement was attributed to Louis Le Maire (sometimes Lemaire), an 18th century composer. "The theme is that used by Mozart for his piano variations, Ah, vous dirai-je, maman."[2] This tune is more commonly recognizable as "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". (Or "Baa, baa, Black Sheep! Have you any wool?")
The challenge is to put these words to it:
"Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta Echo Foxtrot Golf
Hotel India Juliett Kilo Lima Mike November Oscar Papa
Quebec Romeo Sierra and Tango Uniform Victor
Whisky and Xray Yankee Zulu;*
..." (finish it out however you like.)
*maybe
"Whisky Xray, Yankee and Zulu"

Sorry; edited to mention this is "the alphabet song".
Can you sing it from memory? If so does that help you remember the "military alphabet"?

Wait a minute? Military alphabet? Isn't the proper use is to spell something? Or, maybe, based on your suggestion, is it irrelevant? |

Technical name is "communications code". Most of it is from 1952, quite a bit comes from earlier (1942 e.g.) and some comes from later (195n where n is unknown). I think some of it may have been updated as late as the Vietnam conflict; and some of it began as early as World War II.

Yes, especially if the spelling is important, and/or may not be obvious based on the sounds that can be transmitted over some channel. For instance, suppose you can't hear whether someone said "Eubin" or "Dubin" and you asked them to spell it. If they said "dee you bee eye in" you might hear it as "ee you bee eye in" and misundestand. But if they said "delta uniform bravo india november" you would not hear it as "echo uniform bravo india november" and would not misunderstand.
But it's also used when you're transmitting something that's just a string of letters rather than a word, like a license "number" or something. "michigan four echo yankee victor seven nine", say.

Not sure I know what you mean. The points are, can you remember the "communications code" alphabet? Can you sing it to this tune? And does singing it to this tune help you remember it?

I cannot sing it to the tune. Probably because I can't sing anything to any tune. Interesting challenge, though!

I can sort of put it to the tune, it goes with the tune but the letters do not fall on the same beats as they do in the alphabet song.
