yes i agree with both of you halyihev and strangemagic, i certainly am sorry about the severity of the post earlier. i certainly do not want this convo to cause a problem, but i think that you all know how frustrating it is when somebody just doesnt seem to be listening. and i am sorry to eldin raigmore too, for the severity of that post. i will try to keep a level head. as for the question that strangemagic asked, i'm really not sure, because if we lived without evil, then we wouldn't know evil at all, and i would see no reason to move away from god. on the other hand, if we didnt know evil, then im not sure how other people would see good.

Yes, I agree with you and halyihev.

Furthermore, is it only the apple that created the 'First Fall into Evil'? Or could it be just free will, or is it really Satan who manipulates you? Or maybe even a test from God to see how you would react, would you donate money or even donate an organ?

That's somewhat of a Zoroastrian position, I think. Zoroasterian scriptures do take a very dualistic view of the Universe, where Good and Evil are opposite sides of the same coin, so to speak.

Ah, that's very interesting, I haven't looked at Zoroastrianism before.

At the risk of causing a problem, might I suggest that we need to be calm and rational in this discussion, if it's going to continue. Let us have respect for one another, and present our thoughts and feelings without slipping into frustration.

Langover, please also remember that not everyone on the board believes in God.

And again, please refrain from nastiness.

For the information of anyone else on this thread;
Langover and I have had a (not only calm, but also) friendly discussion via PM. I think I understand why his post appeared severe, and as they say "to understand all is to forgive all". I probably also addressed him in a suboptimal manner, because I had a mistaken idea of who he was.
If anything I said appeared "nasty" or "severe" or disrespectful, either to Langover or to anyone else, I apologize for it; I didn't mean it that way.
So, to let you know, there's no argument between me and Langover; if there ever was one, it's over now.

A lot of these beliefs, though, go into the religion I created, Fala, for my people, the Agishians.

That's interesting! I too believe that we evolved from monkeys.

I see I never answered this, so here goes.

My personal religion is a bit hard to define, actually. I consider myself Christian, and subscribe to the teachings of Jesus, but I don't actually belong to a church (although we go to one off and on). I also find the Baha'i faith to be very interesting and there is a great deal of Baha'i teachings that I agree with. I likewise find a lot of spiritual truth in some of the things from more nature-oriented systems such as those of some Native American tribes, and Celtic pre-Christian beliefs. And then all of this has what I like to call a heavy Alurhsa overlay (or perhaps the foundation of all of it is Alurhsa, and I then overlay it with more "normal" terrestrial things?).

Anyway, I think my religious beliefs may shape my Alurhsa work, but my Alurhsa "heritage" definitely shapes my religious beliefs. Very intertwined.

Yes I agree. The Baha'i faith is so beautiful because it actually represents religious tolerance. I'm lucky enough to live fairly close to one of the 7 Baha'i temples in the entire world. For the people that don't know, anybody, no matter what religion, can go to these temples to pray and meditate and whatever.

I also find a great deal of truth in Hindu teachings as well, especially because that they say that there are many paths, but they all lead to the same being. In other words, we all worship the same God, no matter what religion you are.

Sikhism also preaches tolerance. Some Sikh saints and martyrs were martyred for protecting the religious freedom of some non-Sikhs.

But not all Sikhs are, in fact, tolerant.

Even Islam preaches a "limited" tolerance for "people of the book" -- certain other faiths. But some Muslims are much less tolerant than their Prophet and their Scripture say they ought to be.

I don't think Christianity or Judaism preach one way or the other about tolerance, but they both do preach that one should not marry nor go into business with a non-believer. Of course, some adherents of both of these religions are intolerant to a degree their founders would have considered sinful.

Absolutely. I have an Evengelical friend that has absolutely no tolerance for other religions at all, even though her (and my) two best friends are Hindu and Muslim. She's been trying to convert the Hindu friend (Aditi) for years, because they met in grade school. And now she's on Shehnoor (Muslim) to convert. She even says, "God wants them to go to hell because they haven't converted". I of course do not believe this because I KNOW that this isn't true. What kind of loving God send one of his creations to hell (unless they did something horribly bad) because they aren't of the Christian religion? That's like throwing one of your kids off a bridge because they got a "B" on their report card.

What qualities make her your friend?

am not converting, no matter what she says.

We've known each other forever, so it's not like we just became friends. But her religion just came up about a year ago, and we have disagreements on that. We don't let that get in the way of our friendship though.

You mean the Gypsy language? I like that it came from India; I lived in India for a while and really liked it. And I still like the food and the music and the clothes -- maybe even the movies! Probably some other things, too, I can't think of as fast. (I like Indian people, for instance.)

I know few or no Romani myself. But I have read literature and enjoyed other art by several modern ones; not all of this has anything to do with being Romani, though.

Anyone who thinks God wants anybody to go to Hell has missed the whole point of Jesus's incarnation, life, mission and ministry, suffering, crucifixion, death, and resurrection.

Ah, Holy Jesus wrote:
Lo, the Good Shepherd for the sheep is offered;
the slave hath sinned, and the Son hath suffered.
For our atonement, while we nothing heeded,
God interceded.

For me, kind Jesus, was thy incarnation,
thy mortal sorrow, and thy life's oblation;
thy death of anguish and thy bitter passion,
for my salvation.

Well, maybe God would do that (in the Christian belief system); but it wouldn't be His first choice.

Hi eldin, welcome back! Never heard of Romani. I like India as well. I have tons of friends from India. I like the food, especially magi (sp?) and curry. The music is great too (personal favorite is a Punjabi song called 2 Step Bhangra). I love the movies! I just watched Devdas and it was great. A little girl-ish though.

I agree with you on that one, Jesus didn't preach that at all.

I've been 1/4 of a meter from India (without any border post) but didn't go. Crying or Very sad

How so does it "play in"?

Also, in answer to the main question, I am a non-practicing member of every religion there has ever been. Sort of an "anyone could be right for all we know" outlook.

A lot of prayers in my conworld are from the Catholic faith, also some of the prayer services are based on Catholic prayer services.

I like that outlook. Like the Hindus said "There are many paths, but only one God".
