I've somehow regarded Latin as a liturgical language, but from what I've found on the internet it's just was as dynamic as any living language.

Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo,
Aureli pathice et cinaede Furi,
qui me ex versiculis meis putastis,
quod sunt molliculi, parum pudicum.

"I will fuck you in the ass and make you give me head, you faggot Aurelius and pervert Furius, because you thought me indecent because my poems are somewhat sissified."

Oh, absolutely. Rome was a vital civilization, with both the high, esoteric oratorial end, and the potty-mouthed gutter end. Check out the graffiti on the walls of Pompeii for example. And Ovid's poetry can be erotic in some places.

It's only the medieval push of Latin into the ecclesiastical-scientific high-culture end of things that makes us think Latin doesn't have just as much flexibility as English.

If you want erotic Latin poetry, look no farther than Catullus. One of my teachers said it made her black Latin teacher blush when translating some words.

A former student of my Latin teacher who was accused of corrupting the youth.

The only phrase I know in Latin:
Estne volumen in toga, an solum tibi mi libet videre?

"Is that a scroll in your toga, or are you just happy to see me?"

Not all that bad, but it's still pretty funny.

EDIT: 300th post! Hooray for me! Very Happy Wink
