Finally! It only took me like a year or something, but I finally got the brilliant idea to make a keyboard layout for IPA Idea

So yeah, I have every confirmed IPA symbol (consonants, vowels, and some others), as well as most diacritics, and etc.

So now I can type things like (welḷ they don't display here very well, but you know the stuff I mean Wink )

Oh wow. Nice! I'd like to see what the layout looks like. (How did you manage to map all of those symbols?)

I already have one. I'm adding the ExtIPA symbols as we speak.

letters that are already the right IPA stay the same; I used both lowercase and capital letters for examples like /ɟ/ vs /ʝ/ others:

using deadkeys:
1 - bilabial; front vowels
2 - labiodental; mid vowels
3 - coronal; back vowels
4 - retroflex
5 - palatal
6 - velar
7 - uvular
8 - pharyngeal/epiglottal
9 - glottal
? - implosive

replaced several keys with IPA symbols, eg:

" -> tie bar
, -> combining dot below
[ -> combining caron below
] -> combining ring below
@ -> combining acute
# -> combining grave
$ -> combining circumflex
% -> combining macron
^ -> combining cedilla
& -> combining dot above
* -> combining umlaut
( -> combining hook above
) ->combining ring above
_ -> combining caron
+ -> combining double accute
{ -> combining horn
} -> combining dot below
| -> combining cedilla

W -> labialization (superscript w)
R -> rhotic hook
P -> reversed glottal stop
D -> dental
' -> aspiration
J -> palatalization
V -> velarized
P -> pharyngealized
N -> nasalized
D -> dental (bridge below)
L -> linking tie
- -> voiced
= -> voiceless
: -> geminate
; -> breve

oh - and I also added the Greek tonos, and the combining Cyrillic millions sign, because it's awesome!

That looks good. When you say 1=bilabial, does that mean when you type 1 it comes out /p/ (would ! be /b/?), or when you type 1 and something else it comes out /p/?

(Since p is already on the keyboard, it's probably not true in that case, but in general.)

no, not quite.

p,b are already keys on the keyboard - no need to change that, and they're already in IPA Very Happy anything listed under a deadkey number is a variation on that sound eg:

bilabial also: β ɸ
labiodental alsoː ʋ ɱ
etc - the letter after the deadkey indicates which one it is.

in general: if it's the IPA on the keyboard, keep it. otherwise, use lowercase or capitals to indicate the other sounds, by manner of articulation. Diacritics and etc are indicated through other keys, so as to not mess up what you're typing.
