Traffic on this phpBBoard has been less dense recently (for instance it has been 40 days since my last post); but I have checked it nearly every day.
Who else is still active, at least lurking? How many of us?
I hope it's not costing StrangeMagic and/or Serali more than it's worth?

I check about as often.

I haven't posted in a long time because I've been working on a large set of translations for the corresponding section of this forum, as well as the word set needed for getting a language featured on conlang.wikia.com

I check in about once a week, more if I'm working on something at the moment.

Right now I'm on holidays, but I've set some deadlines for my current project so I'm hoping for some relatively consistent progress and so postings.

I'm still lurking every once in a while, and I still consider this site a useful resource (even if my English spelling gets worse and worse with every day).

I doubt that. But it seems not merely possible, but even likely, that your ability to notice your mistakes increases every day; and that increase may outpace the improvements in your ability to spell in English.

So maybe your spelling's actually getting better, but your opinion of it is getting worse.

No, trust me, I do stop and think about words like "example", because the French spell it "exemple", etc.

Also, I was so used to the capital of Belgium being Bruxelles (French/Italian spelling) that I was astonished to find out that the English spelling is "Brussels" (?) See, even now I'm not sure about it.

And another thing. Why don't all our battery-operated electronic devices have a little warning light that will come on whenever the battery dies?

Hello!

It's been a while since I've posted, but I've checked back in every now and again!

I haven't been conlanging for a very long time now. I've just completed my Bachelor's degree, and I will be going on to do my Master's degree in a few days now.

Thankfully this phpBBoard doesn't cost us money - let's just hope it doesn't disappear! I realised this morning that my Eleypherion website's host had disappeared. Another problem is that I haven't been able to add any new members. I had set a restricted username thing, but now I can't get rid of this restriction...

I hope that everyone has been well!

So what were your major and minor fields of study for your baccalaureate? And was it a BA or a BS? Did you have a double major, or a major and two minors, or just a major and a minor, or what?
And what are you going to major in for your Master's? And will it be an MA or an MS? You can have a minor for your Master's, in addition to a major, but it's not common.
Are you planning to go on to a doctorate? If so what kind?
Is your Master's degree going to be from a university in the U.S.A.? Some 4-year colleges also offer Master's degrees in a few fields, though AFAIK none offer doctorates, nor offer Master's in everything. Are you getting your master's from a U.S. college?
If it's from a University in the U.S.A., is it a state university?

AIUI most degrees gained in American schools don't cut as much ice in Europe as European degrees; but Masters' degrees are a definite exception (I have been told).
Also, in general, in the USA, degrees from "private" USAnian colleges and universities are more prestigious than degrees from public USAnian colleges and universities; but in Europe (IHBT) it's the other way around, degrees from American state schools are more prestigious than degrees from American private schools.

How much of that is true, I have no personal experience to tell you.

And of course, nowadays, how your degree is considered to stack up in China and India, and East Asia and South Asia in general, may be more important than what weight it carries in Europe. (Or maybe not.)

I did a BA in English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford, and I will be going on to do an MA in Romantic and Sentimental Literature at the University of York (England) in a few days time.

Over here (I mean the UK), we don't really do majors or minors. However, there are some people who do subjects like "English AND French" which could be classed as a double major, or "English WITH French" which would probably be a major in English and minor in French.

At the moment, I don't think I'll be doing a doctorate, not straight away anyway. I need to find some more funds, but if I do get a good enough mark for my Master's, I'll probably try and go it.

I joined the military, have been dealing with some personal issues, and have been learning Korean at the rate of a college semester per month or so. I've been too busy to conlang, though I check here every once and again. Kind of miss it sometimes.

Well, I guess so!
At what rank is one allowed to have a hobby which one actually spends time on?

Amazingly enough, some people have; consider Marc Okrand.
Indeed, some of us (members of conlanging communities) have. David Peterson, who invented the Dothraki language for the TV series "Game of Thrones", was one of us, and probably still is.

Haha, well, there would be enough time after working hours if I weren't in school. I don't have any brain cells left for hobbies.

It doesn't look like anyone has posted here since December 8 2013.
It's already January 23 2014.
No-one has said anything for the last 46 days (about as long as Lent).
Does no-one have anything to say?
