Well yeah, it would kinda take an awful lot of effort to go without noticing the Jāņi (John's day) in Latvia - it's the national day of getting drunk, eating cheese and having text in the ferns ("looking for the fern bloom") Very Happy

Many people hate this day, to be honest (aside of them, who use this chance to officially get drunk Very Happy

Interesting, I've never heard of that! Is Jāņi the summer soltice celebration in Latvia? If so, why is it named John's Day?

I certainly celebrated the solstice, although I was alone in doing so. Nobody else seemed to care much.

I wished random people a "happy first day of summer," but I was inside playing video games most of that day so I didn't say it to many people. (^_^) I'd much rather celebrate summer than winter; though, I'm very fond of fall because of the lovely American tradition of controlling time, and we get that "extra hour" of sleep. Also I'm in school, and I like school. Wink

*Oh, in fall. NVM.

I'd rather celebrate winter, I've lived in hot places (Arizona and Texas) for all of my life that I've been old enough to remember. I like coldness.

It's supposed to be friggin 102 F here in Austin today. (39 C)
