I figured I'd create a thread for Jinnic because there hasn't been any thread about it yet, and it's the one I use most.

Jinnic is a language descended from Proto-Indo-European, although unrelated to the other branches It also borrows from my other conlangs, so I suppose a group of lost Proto-Indo-Europeans somehow magically appeared on Æejl in Kanvokam and Listan Province, or something like that. I haven't worked out the details yet.
The phonemes are:

High is indicated by an acute accent, low by a grave, rising by a caron, and falling by a circumflex. If a letter that already has a diacritic has a tone that requires another diacritic, the tone-marked letter is wriiten beside the other diacritic-marked letter (e.g. üù, öó, ïî) Jinnic also has length distinction, with short and long vowels.
The cluster čs is commonly pronounced as z\. I and u are pronounced as /j/ and /w/ between vowels - the script has no letters for /j/ and /w/, because they can be marked with the letters for /i/ and /u/.

Primary stress falls on the penultimate syllable of the head morpheme in a word, followed by secondary stress on the first syllable of other morphemes. So a word like "sustemilús" girls' schools in the dative case plural would be /%su"stemil%u_Hs/

Jinnic is VSO! Adjectives come after their nouns, and adverbs come after their verbs, but in compound words, modifiers usually come first.

Nouns have 11 cases - nominative, genitive, accusative, dative, locative, ablative, vocative, instrumental, comitative, essive, and translative. There are animate and inanimate noun classes. There are three numbers: singular, paucal (coming from PIE dual), and plural. Dative and locative have the same form in animate nouns, nominative and accusative have same form in inanimate nouns. The first 8 are original PIE cases. The comitative case comes from the postposition "sem", meaning "with", of pre-Old Jinnic. The essive comes from "bunt", meaning "being", in pre-Old Jinnic. The translative comes from "benint", meaning "becoming", in pre-Old Jinnic.

This looks cool. I'd like to see more on the PIE > Jinnic transition (sound changes and stuff also).

Verbs have indicative, subjunctive, optative, imperative, and intensive moods. They have present, recent past, distant past, recent future, and distant future tenses. There is an inclusive-exclusive distinction in first-person paucal and plural forms and a proximate-obviative distiction in third-person paucal and dual forms. There is a progressive aspect. Verbs also have an ending that indicates hearsay evidentiality.

EDIT: Tolkien_Freak, I just finished detailing the sound changes from PIE to Proto-Jinnic. Next to come - proto-Jinnic to Old Jinnic.

I'm also curious on how you've pulled all those moods and tenses out of PIE.

The recent past tense came from the PJ (Proto-Jinnic) aorist, the distant from the PJ perfect. The recent future came from a prefix related to the Ancient Greek ε-, but instead of marking the imperfect, it marks the future. The distant future nowadays comes from making it high tone, which in Old Jinnic meant lengthening it.

The intensive mood was an innovation, formed by reduplicating the first consonant with a -u- vowel - lulibàtè for libàtè (libàtè means I love you).

The progressive aspect was also an innovation, formed by reduplicating the first consonant with an -a- vowel - lalibàtè for libàtè.

It was in a long-obsolete conlang. Something about terrorists needing to be searched fully until the war is over, I can't even remember. It was my signature. And I'm in the process of posting some Proto-Jinnic side-by-side with PIE. But first, a forgotten sound change: eu in PIE makes PJ ü.

And on the file, the double vowels (aa, ee, ii, etc.) are supposed to represent long vowels. I was just too lazy for the macron - 'tain't on US-International.

Proto-Jinnic still retains the IE feel, but certainly looks distinct from any lang I'm aware of. Looks awesome.
