[strikethrough](As far as I have been able to find out this is by Gayle Williams. I know she wrote the music; I'm not sure she wrote the words but I cannot find them credited to anyone else.)[/strikethrough]
"The Celebrity", written and illusrated by Edgar Parker (1961);
music by Gayle Williams (date unknown)
The Illustrious Dragon of England and Wales
Has two awful heads, and eleven long tails,*
And nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine scales,
And spangles and warts without measure.
The King and the Queen are as proud as can be:
They often invite him to join them for tea.
No land has a dragon as awful as he!
They think him a national treasure.
Wherever he wanders, there follows a crowd
Of jubilant citizens, equally proud,
Delightedly singing his praises aloud,
And strewing his pathway with flowers.
You may search: high and low, near and far; everywhere:
And find a few demons to give you a scare:
But none of them awful enough to compare
With ours, with ours, with ours.
With ours.
*[EDIT]: corrected from "tales". [/EDIT]
EDIT2: Gayle Williams wrote: | Did you add the blog text? The poem, "The Celebrity", was written by Edgar Parker and is included in 1961 a collection of his work called "Stuff and Nonsense". My parents had the book and I was fascinated by the illustrations that are, apparently, also done by Mr. Parker. Thanks for the credit, but you should have asked me first! |

(The slash on the second line was because I translated it as "tales" and then "tails", not sure if it is a typo.)

"Lung" sounds Chinese (don't know which "dialect"); "desi" sounds Japanese. But Google can't translate it as either of them.
Looks like some of your numbers are Romance-ish. (Just in case, I tried to get Google to translate it from Spanish: no-go.)
What language is that in?
One of your conlangs? (Maybe Eleypherion?)
Or a natlang? _________________ "We're the healthiest horse in the glue factory" - Erskine Bowles, Co-Chairman of the deficit reduction commission |

Yeah, I borrowed a few words from Chinese, "lung" is somewhat like Cantonese.
Ectaro ectsam-ectarect is basically - 9-thousand 9-hundred 9-ten 9.
And it is in Eleypherion. ^_^ |

Also, would you mind giving us an "Interlinear Morphemic Gloss" of the first and last verses?

That request is more conlangish than conscriptish. A good conscriptish request would be to ask you to do for one (or more) line(s) of your orthographic version whatever the conscriptish version of an IMG is. I guess that means; show it in orthography; then show it in romanisation or IPA or Z-SAMPA or CXS; then continue with an IMG. _________________ "We're the healthiest horse in the glue factory" - Erskine Bowles, Co-Chairman of the deficit reduction commission |

I like this.
I just found out the real name of the poem is "The Celebrity".
And the poet -- and illustrator -- was Edgar Parker.
He did it in 1961 in a book called "Stuff and Nonsense".
I can't find it online. _________________ "We're the healthiest horse in the glue factory" - Erskine Bowles, Co-Chairman of the deficit reduction commission |
