ÙROBASICAN

Ùrobasican aka Urobasi is a conlang which I started developing in late 2006 early 2007. As the name suggests, the conlang is based on Latin-Romance. There is a simplified and a standard version of Urobasi.

These are the differences:

Standard
In Standard Urobasi, as with many Romance languages, there is the use of gender. Also, as with many RL's, verbs are formed by adding or subtracting letters from the base verb or infinitive verb. Not to mention, adjectives must agree with the subject or object.

Simplified
In Simplified Urobasi, everything except three things are different.
1. There is no use of genders - every word is unigendered - also there is no need to "agree" with adjectives.
2. Verb formations are regular and does not change with different pronouns - unlike in Spanish/Italian/Portuguese or French where different speakers are coded with different letter combinations in the verbs.
3. Finally, there are no accents on letters, with a few special consonants being an exception.

1. HISTORY

As mentioned in my first post, I have been developing this conlang for about 1 year now. The name Ùrobasican derives from the region of influence of the conlang: Europe!

---

Ùrobasican is a relatively 'easy' conlang to learn if you pay attention to it. If you have learnt a Latin-Romance language, Urobasi will be quite a joke to you. However, don't be fooled, there are some complex rules.

2. ALPHABET

The standard Urobasi alphabet consists of the 26 English letters with the exclusion of the letter w, which is replaced by the diphthong 'ju'. Also, there are a number of additional consonants and accented vowels.

CONSONANTS

b c ç d f g h j j' k l m n ñ p q r s t v x y* z

NB: The letter 'y' is considered a 'double-up': both a consonant and vowel.

VOWELS

a à á â ä ã e è é ê ë i ì í î ï o ò ó ô ö u ù ú û ü y ý ÿ

NB: These accents will be explained below:

ACCENTS

As you can see, there are a number of consonants and vowels which have accents. But what does it mean and when is it used?

Grave (à) - This accent represented by a backslash stroke is used to represent a softening of that vowel.
à è ì ò ù

Acute (á) - This accent represented by a forwardslash stroke is used to represent an uppening effect of that vowel.
á é í ó ú ý

Circumflex (â) - This accent represented by an upward arrowtip is used to represent a shortening of that vowel.
â ê î ô û

Diaeresis (ä) - This accent represented by two dots is used to represent a hardening of that vowel.
ä ë ï ö ü

Tilde (ã) - This accent represented by a squiggly horizontal line is used to:
1. create the letter 'ñ' ['n' in news]
2. represent an 'i' with the letter 'a' before an o. (eg. ão - aio)
