I'm sure I've read something when I was about 11 or 12, about a traveler language called Vilani (or was that Valani, can't remember) but I'm pretty sure it's from the net and not from a book, so it can't be.

That somewhat depends how long ago you were 11 or 12. No, it's not Valani.

Ok, here's the scoop.

The language is called Loxian, and was created by Roma Ryan, the lyracist for Enya. Enya's latest album, Amarantine, released a couple of years ago, created a bit of a stir in conlanging circles because it had three songs on it that were sung in the Loxian language. The lyrics, in Loxian (and in the Loxian script) were printed on the CD sleeve with the others. The songs were themed to do with things on the Loxian homeworld.

Shortly thereafter, Roma Ryan put out a book called "Water Shows the Hidden Heart", named after the first Loxian song on the album. (The other two are "The River Sings" and "Less Than a Pearl".) In the book, she describes a mystic journeying traveller across the Loxian homeworld. It includes descriptions of an assortment of sacred places, some cultural information, and some poetry in English. It has a very ethereal feel. In the appendix the songs' lyrics are printed in Loxian script, romanization, and translated into English. The dedication page of the book is in Loxian (and in Loxian script). Enya did some interviews after the release of the album in which she talked about the language a bit.

How about this:

Another example (this time romanized)*not the same as above:

Samnet yo Bantilar
Samnat yo aantilac, Datong con bathala ya abeya chda cloper meboy siewes, menti chdi loning ya moy beresagui samnat eela-bolto, gona yonoy dolerkido.

It certainly isn't a pretty scripty, still it is very controversial. Some consider it(the lang the script was written in) a conlang while others consider it a natlang. It's origins certainly are unclear as it doesn't appear to be lexically related to any of the Philippine langs. *oops, gave too much Embarassed

Enya and Roma Ryan were who I was thinking of. I've never read nor heard anything by either of them so I couldn't remember their names so I couldn't look them up. I don't think I ever knew Loxian; that sounds like a language from Farscape, doesn't it?

What the heck is Eskaya? I never heard of it before.

It does! In fact I've thought of that several times, since Car D'Argo was "Luxan" I think. But it also could have been "Loxan".

Question Not sure what you mean. I thought this was about yssida's post, but I don't see that word in there as I re-check.

Aww, you gave it too soon...........someone will have to give a new one......

Actually yes, it is Eskaya, sort of random words and Cebuano grammar. A cipher is what most of the conlang world would call it, although it has developed into ******something.

First, thanks. Now I know more about it than I did before.
Second, I'm sorry I posted that on the thread instead of a PM. See, I looked it up with Google, and I know that that disqualified me from the game. I didn't mean to cheat; I meant to "give up". That is, I looked it up, and then meant to ask you about it via PM. I don't remember why or how I posted it on-thread. Embarassed

Well, I should have just used the pic, but then I figured they would want to know how it would 'sound'. That's okay, someone will just have to post another one. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Yep, that was fast.

Try this one (not that hard):

Tegevus toimub väljamõeldud maailmas, mis meenutab mineviku Jaapanit. Ometi on see mõneti väga tänapäevane, näiteks on olemas televiisorid ja raadiosaatjad (kuigi tulirelvi ja mootorsõidukeid(Naruto esimeses filmis on aga autod ja rongid). ei eksisteeri).

My guess is Azeri (a.k.a. Azerbaijani). I think that's the only one I know that uses "ә", which is the same as Turkish dotless i. The "ғ" is equal to Turkish ğ, and I believe the ө is Turkish ö.

What makes me unsure, though, are some of the other characters, and I would have thought I'd pick up a few more words here and there, based on the amount of Turkish I know. I can do that with Uzbek, for example.

Presumably from the former Soviet Union, given that it's written in Cyrillic. A Caucasian language?

And I have to ask, *how* did you know that, Aeetlrcreejl?

I recognized one of the characters as being a Bashkir character.

Next question:

Tíobáhai hi báaiso kohoaihíaisóogabagaí. Tí 'ísi báaiso 'ogabagai, gíiai 'ogihíaihiaba. Tíobáhai hi 'ísi báaiso 'oaboihaí. 'Ahoakohoaihio 'ísi kaopápihaí.

I don't know what it is, though I don't think it's Xhosa. I don't think Xhosa uses accents.

is it then a romanization of arabic? i took note of the stops at the beginning of some of the words and it seems that it is a common trait of the arabic letter 'ayin.
