A couple weeks ago I added sound to my blog. If anyone's interested, check out the blog at http://blog.alurhsa.org and each entry has an mp3 file of me reading the Alurhsa.
You can also subscribe to the blog as either an RSS feed in your newsreader, or a podcast in iTunes or whatever. URL is http://blog.alurhsa.org/?feed=rss2
Let me know what you think... _________________ Dwirze ghárìlen ershónyá áqálán.

Amazing, I love the sound of Alurhsa! It sounds a bit like German or Dutch, very nice! |

Thanks!
Fascinatingly, almost everyone who hears it seems to pick a different language or languages that it sounds like. Often Slavic languages, but I've heard everything from Finnish to Welsh to Brazillian Portuguese, to a mixture like "Russian spoken by an Arabic speaker with a French accent who spent a lot of time studying Welsh". _________________ Dwirze ghárìlen ershónyá áqálán.

Yeah it's pretty cool sounding like that. Are there any dialects of the language? _________________

There are indeed. What you're hearing is in Standard Alurhsa, which is what's taught, what most things are written in, etc. But there are a wide variety of dialects.
If I get ambitious (wish me luck on that...) I could try to write and record one of the passages in, say, the Lezánthá dialect spoken in the badlands in the north-central part of the main continent. The accent is quite different (very clipped, loss of some vowels, etc.) and a number of terms from the older languages once spoken there creep into normal speech. _________________ Dwirze ghárìlen ershónyá áqálán.

That was how I thought it sounded as well. I don't really like languages with accent marks every other letter, this one's different. It's quite beautiful, especially the nasal vowels. In fact everything is, well, that is, except the accents. Still can't get over that _________________ kasabot ka ani? aw di tingali ka bisaya mao na

Anyone else on-board besides David ever hear a mermaid sing?

You mean you haven't?
Actually, go to http://www.clairepelletier.com, click on the "Discographie" link at the top, and under the first album on the list (Ce que tu donnes), where it says "extraits audio", click the one that says "Le chant des sirènes". Claire's voice is, in my opinion, rather like what I'd expect a "sirène" (mermaid) to sound like. _________________ Dwirze ghárìlen ershónyá áqálán.
