I very much like this one and translated it into ra cel:

Quote:
One bright day, late at night,
Two dead boys rose up to fight.
Back to back, they faced each other,
Drew their swords, and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise
And came and killed those two dead boys.
If you don't believe this lie is true
Just ask the blind man -- he saw it too.

A-day bright (1n1a), at-night late (2n1a)
Arise-PAST boy-pl. two dead (1n1a) fight-D

Great!
I laughed again upon reading it.
Is that romanization with diacritics you've used the actual script of Ra Cel, or do they have a native script -- that is, do you have a "con"-script or neography you'll eventually write this in?

There's a script for it, very similar to that of Tadvaradcel (which stole its writing from ra cel in the first place) and if you'd like I can write this out and post it later. (^_^)

some standup comic whom I'll have to credit when I can wrote:
If an argument starts with
"What did you mean by that?",
it's probably not going to end with
"Oh, so that's what you meant by that."

Thanks. And yes, I will do when I can, I'm just not very good at explaining certain things so I am working out how to do so.

Lucy Snyder, as a school girl, wrote the following poem about her pet tarantula:

Quote:
"I have a fuzzy spider;
I named him 'Mr. Squizzy'.
I lost him on the school bus;
He's not in your lunchbox, is he?"

The lesson / the moral could be "don't trust her, she likes to let her pet go for a walk on his own... or she likes to lose her pet on purpose..."

I wasn't sure if this should go here or under a song lyrics thread...but it could be a good challenge as a sort of long run-on sentence.

From “That’s Your Horoscope for Today” by Weird Al
Now you may find it inconceivable or at the very least a bit unlikely that the relative position of the planets and the stars could have a special deep significance or meaning that exclusively applies to only you but let me give you my assurance that these forecasts and predictions are all based on solid scientific documented evidence so you would have to be some kind of moron not to realize that every single one of them is absolutely true - where was I?

Curse that song! It just leads to conworld questions! (it was the reason why I asked the stereotypw question back at "Conreligions" ) Very Happy

But about translating it in the conlang... ouch, I should first translate it into Latvian, knowing, that it would make many many subordinate clauses, not to mention the intranslationabe expressions.
Just for the sake of it, I'll try it right here, beneath your eyes, because I know you might be interested in the way subordinate clauses are made in Latvian. I'll brake it into subordinate clauses just for the sake of comfort.

Latviski:

1. Tā, tev varētu šķist neiedomājami vai vismaz mazliet maz ticami,
2. ka planētu un zvaigžņu relatīvajam novietojumam varētu būt kāda īpaša, dziļa nozīme vai jēga,
3. kas attiecas vienīgi uz tevi,
4. bet ļauj man tev apliecināt,
5. ka visas šīs prognozes un pareģojumi ir pamatoti uz pamatīgiem, zinātniski dokumentētiem pierādījumiem,
6. tāpēc tev būtu jābūt kaut kādam muļķim,
7. lai neaptvertu,
8. ka pilnīgi ikkatra no tām ir absolūti precīza;
9. kur es paliku?

Original in Latvian sub-clauses Very Happy
1. Now you may find it inconceivable or at the very least a bit unlikely
2. that the relative position of the planets and the stars could have a special deep significance or meaning
3. that exclusively applies to only you
4. but let me give you my assurance

6. so you would have to be some kind of moron
7. not to realize
8. that every single one of them is absolutely true -
9. where was I?

Oh, actually it's good for wordbuilding Smile
